Forget backpacking in Asia, why not go island hopping in Greece? Beautiful weather, friendly people, and the beaches are comparable to the Maldives. Why Greece is the perfect destination to go backpacking (especially for women only!), I’ll tell you in this blog.

  • Safety

One of the most important reasons for traveling to a country nowadays is whether it is safe, especially for women who travel alone. Greece is perfect! It is really very safe. Although Greece is not in the top 10 of the safest countries in the world (where that is based on, I do not know), I feel safer in Greece than in the Netherlands.

  • Hospitality

Greeks are incredibly hospitable. They will gladly help you where necessary, are grateful and trench. I can really enjoy Greek hospitality because it is very different than in the Netherlands, where we become less and less hospitable over the years.

  • Relatively cheap

Okay Asia is probably cheaper and you can better skip Santorini, but Greece is a relatively cheap country. Where I eat in the Netherlands for € 25, -, you’ll be fine in Greece with € 10,- to € 15,-.

  • Islands

Greece has about 6,000 countries of which +/- 227 are inhabited. The fact that the country is not really big is visible from the many different islands. Greece offers nature, beach, going out and a lot of history. Each island has its own characteristics and with all those different islands you will never be spotted!

  • Greek food

Greece has so many different dishes and drinks. For example, they are known for ouzo, raki, and rakoumelo. Moussaka, souvlaki, and pita gyros are one of the most famous Greek dishes worldwide.

  • Close by

Why would you sit on an airplane for hours when you can also backpack close to home? For Greece, you do not have to spend hours on the plane and a stopover isn’t usually. From the Netherlands, you fly there in about 3 to 3.5 hours. Ideal right? 🙂
